Katie Hansberry, a former civil litigation attorney, serves as the Maine State Director for The Humane Society of the United States, overseeing all of the organization’s efforts in the state and working with HSUS’ Maine-based members. Hansberry offers an informed perspective on problems facing animals in the Pine Tree State.

Drawing from her background in law, public policy, economics and environmental studies, she addresses everything from wildlife law to companion animal cruelty.

Hansberry has volunteered with the Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick, the Volunteer Lawyers Project, and the Nature Conservancy. She is also the campaign director for Mainers for Fair Bear Hunting.

She grew up spending her summers in Maine at Chop Point Camp in Woolwich and attended Bowdoin College. Hansberry currently resides in Portland with her adopted cat Goody and her rescued Corgi, Scully.
